Well I have been working with people and on myself for over 25 years, coming to coaching after many years as a counsellor, group worker and organisational consultant. I have dipped my toes and paddled in many waters and taken many journeys of discovery through my own personal learning about a wide range of subjects including Feng Shui, Indigenosity of the Soul, Furniture and Drum making, Scuba Diving, Motorcycling and things Quantum.
My work with people has ranged from designing and running structured group work programmes for those recovering from dependency on street drugs to operating at a policy development level within a national addiction organisation. Some of the more intense work as included walking the streets with heavily dependant heroin users – getting to know them and getting known by them and their suppliers as well as working in powerful group work sessions using hands-on craft work with individuals who were seeking to connecting with deeper, more ancient aspects of themselves.
Much of this work was done with my late partner in life and work – Vicky Patterson: Together we worked with many people drawing on the skills and abilities we both had built up over the years. How incredibly blessed I was to have that time with Vicky and to draw on and learn from her very unique and powerful way of being in the world. She left me that great gift amongst so many others.
I have undertaken consultancy work with a broad range of organisations and agencies ranging from health boards and trusts to family support groups and crisis intervention centres. Recently I have been working with CHCPs on development issues around substance use and offering particular models of resettlement for agencies in Norway. The indivdual and group coaching work has been with people in the voluntary sector as well as those working in and with private companies.
I have lived in Glasgow for more than half my life now and am doing some amazing learning with a man of great insight and learning in New Mexico. This led me to being there for half a year in 2006 and I am exploring the possibility of spending a month or so at a time there – combining the best of Scotland with this still wild part of the USA.
I love nature and when the mood takes me will drive off on my motorcycle with my little two-person tent or just a groundsheet and sleep under the stars.
