Coaching is a conversation between two or more people. It is a powerful conversation - not an ordinary every day conversation. Its focus is you – what you bring to the session and most importantly the life and person you have a desire to become. Here are some words from the initiators of co-activity – taken from their recently republished book ‘Co-Active Coaching’

“What is different about a co-active coaching conversation? In our view, coaching is not about solving problems, although problems will be solved. It is not primarily about improving performance, attaining goals, or achieving results, although all of that will certainly happen in an effective coaching relationship. We believe that coaching is chiefly about discovery, awareness and choice. It is a way of effectively empowering people to find their own answers, encouraging and supporting them on the path as they continue to make important choices.”

(L Whitworth, K Kimsey-House, H Kimsey-House, P Sandahl – Co-Active Coaching 2007)

I consider that the skills, tools and innate abilities that co-active coaching bring supports your goal to be who you want to be and achieve what you want to achieve. The outcomes may not be what you think when you start the work so be prepared for some surprises.

Values – Fulfilment coaching – work to clarify what it is that is important to you – the real core stuff that makes you the kind of person you are – or that you want to become. Basing decisions on what is of value to you moves you closer to who you want to be.

Balance – Choice. Tools and skills to look at how you decide. Working from perspectives created from your Future Self, your pet, your greatest s/heros amongst others...

Process – Too busy to enjoy the moments of success? Rushing through that tough spot in the hope that it will all go away? Process work connects you to what you are experiencing – or not as the case may be – so that you are more fully connected to your life.
